| The Jones Inlet Invitational Tuna Tournament held
July 31st throught Aug 3rd was a BIG success. 19 boats participated and had
a great time. The tournament was blessed with great weather and lots of quality
fishing. Outback Steakhouse of Merrick sponsored a fantastic dinner for all
the participants and there were numerous door prize giveaways and a fantastic
raffle that included some really high-end items like a Furuno 535 color sounder
and a 32-inch LCD TV. A portion of the raffle proceeds will go to help the
RFA and the Special Olympics.
Aside from Outback Steakhouse we would like to give special thanks to
Albemarle Sportfishing Boats and Performance Diesel/MAN for their generous
contributions. Our own Albemarle 41 Express, “White Glove” was
used to film the tournament by Northeast Angling for a show that will be
aired later this year.
The top winner was Capt. Howard Lemon Jr. on “Rockaway” with
a 207-pound bigeye that was landed Saturday morning. Capt. Glen Kapoosuzian
on “Reel Games” also had a nice tournament, taking the second
and fourth place prizes with a pair of yellowfins that weighed 70 and 67-pounds
respectively. Third place award went to Capt. William Daily on the Gigabyte
with a 68 pound yellowfin and fifth place was won by Capt. Alan Cook and
the crew of the Sea-N-Ess with their 66 pound yellowfin. Feedback from
the participants was that this was one of the classiest and friendliest
fishing tournaments on Long Island to date and all promised to come back
for next year’s event.
